...on starting a blog for parents...

Hello everyone

Recent events have led me to move back and away from commitments I made to the Harrow & Wealdstone Scout District. While Andrea and Bernie take a leave of absence to concentrate on some difficult family circumstances I need to focus my full attention on the Group. In time, who knows? I imagine the day will arrive for me to take up my District Commissioner post once again but for now I am happy to to give the 13th/21st Harrow my full attention.

To keep the Group functioning and growing I've had a long, hard think about communication... Communication between organisations and their participants is always problematic and our Scout Group is no exception. I'm sure you know and so I won't repeat tales of 'mushroom management' and 'monkeys in a tree' but the implication is real - it is difficult for us to ensure that you receive all the information you need, in the form that you need it and at the time when you need it. It is difficult to know if we are giving you too much information or too little. It's also difficult to enable a forum for discussion where anyone who wants to contribute can do so.

And so I’ve elected to use a blog as a means to communicate with all the parents of all the young people in our Scout Group. I’ll add links to each post I write to an email, tweet and Facebook post and hope that, over time, all will come to see this is the best place for the exchange and discussion of ideas.

So watch out for future posts and please take a moment to reply if you think it would help the discussion along.

Happy Scouting

Darren
